What's a Community Organizer?

I've written about Saul Alinsky, and the Industrial Areas Foundation, and efforts to organize for progressive change in Northern Virginia before.

Man am I pissed to hear the Republican attack machine trying to turn "community organizer" into a dirty word.

So what's a community organizer? This is.

The radio guys like Hannity and Levin are mentioning Saul Alinsky by name a lot in their condemnation of "community organizer".

Read "Rules for Radicals". It's a practical guide and it's full of hilarious stories.

Alinsky trained Cesar Chavez and a couple of generations of people fighting the good fight. He's one of the few organizers of his generation who left behind a formal organization to carry his work forward.

So, what does that say for the old Bush's "Thousand Points of Light" campaign, if a community organizer is a pariah?

I turned on the radio tonight, and the first two words out of Mark Levin's mouth were "Saul Alinsky".
