Abridged Classics

Here's a game we used to play on long car rides. Come up with the name of a book after the fiends at Reader's Digest have had a chance to downsize it.

Examples:

The Two Musketeers

Tale of a City

The Snack Counter at the End of the Neighborhood

The Wind of a Skirmish

A Few Things You Always Wanted to Know About Sex*
*But Haven't Gotten Around to Asking, Yet.

My Body, My Self

Have at it, friends.

Good Heavens, thank you friends.

Entries above have evinced muffled chortles, out-loud chuckles, two snorts, three snuffles and a guffaw.

I don't want to sleight anybody by missing their gem here, so I'll just take special note of the entry that topped my Douglas Adams reference.

Heinlein references and a sly Star Trek/Vonda McIntyre aside also caught my eye.

So did all the tributes to Shakespeare, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Melville, Tolstoy, John Kennedy Toole, and whichever Bolles brother wasn't blown up by mobsters.

Love the Oprah reference too.

Good golly we're a literate bunch of wise asses.

l.b.: RFB wants to know if that's a Rugrats reference in the midst of your Judy Blume parody.
